Dr. C. Sylendra Babu (born 5 June 1962) is an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the 1987 batch belonging to Tamil Nadu cadre. Hailing from the southern most district of Nagercoil , Sylendra Babu is now serving as the Inspector General of North Tamilnadu [1]. He is very much known as avid reader, motivational speaker and a fitness enthusiast. He is also the author of various motivational books.

Sylendra babu finished his schooling in Govt Higher Secondary School Vilavancode, Kuzhithurai. He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree[2] in Agriculture from the Agricultural College and Research Institute Madurai. He obtained a Master of Science in Agriculture from the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore. Later, he obtained a Bachelor of General Law and Master of Arts in Population Studies from the Annamalai University, and Doctor of Philosophy From -University of Madras[3]. Recently, he finished a Master of Business Administration in Human Resources.
Sylendra babu holds Doctorate for his thesis on the subject - Causes and Consequences of missing Children. The motive behind the subject was one of the cases he handled during his career. The case was related to a missing boy who was kidnapped, molested and finally killed. He used this real life incident for his thesis study.
Sylendra babu joined in the Indian Police Service (IPS) as a member of the 1987 batch. He was trained by the National Police Academy, Hyderabad. He has served as the Assistant Superintendent of Police,in Gobichettipalayam, Salem and Dindigul and as the Superintendent of Police, in Chengalpattu, Sivaganga, Cuddalore and Kancheepuram districts and as the Deputy Commissioner of ,Adayar-Chennai. He has also served as the Deputy Inspector-General of Police of Viluppuram Range and as the Joint Commissioner of Police, Chennai. Later, he became the DIG of Police, Tiruchirapalli before becoming the Chief Vigilance Officer in Karur, served as Commissioner of Police, Coimbatore prior to becoming Inspector General for Northern Zone, Chennai.[4]
Right from his early days Sylendra Babu exhibited his sporting talent as a very well athlete, shooter and as a good manager of the Indian National Athletic Team.

Making Shooting Clubs in Schools and Colleges: As Shooting is an International sport, C.Sylendra Babu IPS is creating awareness about shooting and has been created many shooting clubs in Tamil Nadu. During his deputation in TNPL as a Chief Vigilance Officer, he has created a Shooting club in TNPL school. Within six months of its starting those students have won medals at State level competitions and gave motivation to their couch to start further clubs in Rural villages.
Apart from being a successful police officer, Dr. Sylendra Babu has volunteered for many social responsibilities like
1) Motivating youngsters for IAS/IPS/IFS exams: Many of his students have cleared the exams successfully. Budding aspirants get counselling from him personally and over the web through his website[5]. Had been doing this service for almost a decade.
2) Molding students/athletes into champions: Being an active sportsman, he has always volunteered in training youngsters for shooting competitions. People trained by him have won competitions in state level and national level competitions. Dr. Sylendra Babu himself is a professional shooter and holds medals for shooting competitions.
3) Welfare of the cop's family: Throughout his career, Dr.Sylendra Babu is known for paying attention to the welfare of his subordinates. During his stint as DIG (Tiruchirapalli range), he organized job fair programs[6] for the children of the policemen working with him.
4) Karate Camp for Kids: Dr.Babu has organized karate camps[7]for kids for poor economic section of Mogappair in between his busy schedule.
